The Mekong is one the worlds largest and longest rivers and it empties in the sea in the Southern Vietnam. The Delta was long time part of the Khmer kingdom and is today one of the most important areas of Vietnam. There is enough rice growing in Delta to feed the entire country. Discover in this trip how the inhabitants of the Delta live in one the countries most populated region.

Note: A homestay is a wonderful experience and the best way to understand the local culture and meet hospitable local villagers, even if the comfort and facilities are very simple and to be compared with a hotel or guesthouse. Families offering this service mostly reserve one part of their house for visitors, own rooms are not common and upon request.

ITINERARY

Day 01   Ho Chi Minh City – My Tho      (L/D)

Pick up at hotel IN Ho Chi Minh City. Drive to My Tho (2 hour drive from Ho Chi Minh City) and visit Vinh Trang Pagoda, where monks operate a small orphonage. My Tho is a prosperous town of 170,000 inhabitants in the Mekong Delta. It is famous for its extensive orchards and immense fruit gardens. Enjoy a boat ride on the Mekong River to Thoi Son islet. Lunch with dried “elephant’s ear fish”. Check-in the cottage on the island. Walking in the islet to visit an orchard. Dinner in a typically local house. Enjoy amateur music. Overnight in the cottage.

Day 02      (B/L/D)

Breakfast.

Overland to Cai Be. A motor-sampan takes you along the Mekong River following small canals flowing sluggishly between the two banks of luxuriant vegetation. Visit a local house making pop-corn rice and pop-corn maize, banana caramel and coconut caramel and Cai Be floating market. Lunch at Mr. Sau Giao’s bonsai garden on Binh Hoa Phuoc islet. Continue to visit some more fruit and bonsai gardens.

Dinner and overnight at Mr. Muoi Day’s house.

Day 03       (B/L/D)

Breakfast.

Continue the boat trip to Binh Minh, neighbour of Can Tho (30 km). Visit a lot of artisanal workshops producing: tofu, soya sauce, brick… Visit Phu Ly Kh’mer pagoda. Lunch in a local house. Disembark at Binh Minh. Overland to Can Tho. Check-in My Khanh garden. Wandering in the garden to visit a miniature zoo.

Dinner and accommodation in the garden.

Day 04  Can Tho - Cai Rang – Sadec - Ho Chi Minh City  (B/L)

Breakfast.

Boat trip on Mekong river to visit Phong Dien and Cai Rang floating markets then drive back Ho Chi Minh City via Sadec. Visit Rose Garden of Mr. Tu Ton. Lunch at local restaurant. Drop off at your hotel in Ho Chi Minh city. End of service.
