A cycling tour within Northern Vietnam that will take you to discover the National Park of Cuc Phuong, a natural reserve among the most important in Vietnam. And other awesome sites as Hoa Lu and Halong Bay, where rock formations raise from the water skywards presenting a very unique view.

Note: Vietnam’s roads are among the most dangerous in the world, we avoid any highways and cycle only on narrow roads.  For long stretches we use the supporting vehicle. The tour is escorted by an experienced guide.

ITINERARY

Day 1  Hanoi - Mai Chau - Van village (22 km)   (L/D)

Early morning pick up at your hotel inHanoi and transfer to Mai Chau by car – a beautiful valley surrounded by spectacular rock formations and picturesque rice paddies. After lunch at a local restaurant take the bikes and ride along a mix of dirt tracks and tarmac trails through a Thai minority village and across rice paddies to Van village. The cycling follows a river gradually upstream. Overnight in a traditional house. 

Day 2   Van village - Xo village - Proom Coc village (24km) (B/L/D)

Breakfast at hotel.

A more challenging ride today. Pedal from Van village to Xo for lunch. Cycle up the mountain and follow the contours of the mountainside before dropping down into the Mai Chau Valley and Proom Coc village. Overnight in a traditional House on stilts.

Day 3   Proom Coc village - Cuc Phuong (92km) (B/L/D)

Breakfast at hotel.

Early morning transfer by car to Cuc Phuong National Park on country lanes and back roads. The scenery is overwhelming, and photo opportunities bountiful as you pedal through a working landscape of people and crops. Cuc Phuong is one of Vietnam’s most important nature reserves and contains the country’s largest area of primary forest. Visit the Primate Rescue Centre and learn about the plight of endangered species such as the Cat Ba Langur. Dinner and overnight at Cuc Phuong Park Guest House.

Day 4   Cuc Phuong - Hoa Lu - Ninh Binh (60km) (B/L/D)

Breakfast at hotel.

After listening to the dawn chorus of Gibbon song, spend part of the morning exploring the flora and fauna of this unique national park. Leave Cuc Phuong and ride downhill to Hoa Lu, an ancient capital of the country. Set amidst stunning scenery this area is known as the ‘Halong Bay of Rice Paddies’. Transfer the last few km on Highway 1 to the hotel. Dinner and overnight in Ninh Binh.

Day 5   Ninh Binh – Haiphong - Cat Ba (43km) (B/L/D)

Breakfast at hotel.

An early morning transfer toHaiphong and take over to Cat Ba by ferry. After a seafood lunch on board spend the afternoon cycling across this beautiful, fragile island. In the evening take a local fishing boat to explore the floating homes in the bay.

Dinner and overnight in Cat Ba.

Day 6  Cat Ba – Halong - Hanoi  (B/L)

Breakfast.

A relaxing day off the bikes. Board a private junk for a cruise through Halong Bay. Lunch on board and plenty of swimming opportunities. In the afternoon arrive in Halong city and transfer directly to Hanoi by road.

The tour ends with the transfer to your hotel in Hanoi.
