Da Lat Travel Guide

Dalat, the city of Eternal Spring, is the main city of Lam Dong province in the Central highlands of Vietnam, some 300 km north of Ho Chi Minh city.  Lakes, waterfalls, forests and gardens surround the town and most tourists spend their time exploring the beautiful countryside by foot, motorbike or bicycle.  The cool climate and the scenic environment make Dalat a good option for escaping the heat of South Vietnam.

Dalat is the country’s most popular honeymoon spot, and at any time of the year, but particularly in the spring, visitors will see newlyweds at Dalat's various attractions.  Dalat is also home to several ethnic hill tribes, who originally gave Dalat its name.

What to Do ?

Activities in Dalat include a stroll around the Xuan Huong lake (or better yet, a trip around the lakes by paddle boats) and visits to some of the nearby waterfalls.  Other attractions include the Dalat flower garden, the “Crazy House”, Bao Dai’s Summer Palace, a trip on the Cremaillere Railway Station, and the "Valley of Love" park.

Dalat is also becoming one of the homes for Vietnam’s outdoor adventure activities, including trekking to the nearby minority villages, cycling, canyoning, rock climbing and rappelling.
In addition, with cool weather and the 18-hole Dalat Palace Golf Club, Dalat is a popular destination for golf.

When to Go ?

Dalat is in the temperate region and has pleasant weather year-round, even sunny during much of the rainy season.  The dry season lasting from November to March, and the rainy season from April to November. During the winter months, the average temperature is 10 C while during summer it is around 20 C.  Ideal weather is from November to March, when the air is fresh and cool.

How To Get There ?

Flights: Vietnam Airlines has daily short flights between Dalat with HCMC, and there is also one flight per day between Dalat and Hanoi. The airport is around 30 km south of the city.

Car & Bus: It is also possible to reach Dalat by bus or car.  From Dalat, it takes approximately 4-5 hours to Nha Trang (205km) and slightly longer to HCMC (308km).  Public buses, as well as the popular tourist buses, run both of these routes with stops.
